The five oceans in the catalog, drawn as circles with the same area as each ocean basin. Marginal seas are not separate circles.
How to read it. A wider circle is a larger water surface, using the same area rule as the country worlds: radius is sqrt(area / pi) times the display scale. This does not show where an ocean sits on the globe.
The circles are: Pacific Ocean (168 723 000 km²); Atlantic Ocean (85 133 000 km²); Indian Ocean (70 560 000 km²); Southern Ocean (21 960 000 km²); Arctic Ocean (15 558 000 km²). Combined catalog area 361 934 000 km². The Pacific alone is about twice the Atlantic in this set. These figures are the catalog basin areas. Do not add a sea on top of them or the water is counted twice.
Seas, named but not drawn. Pacific basin: South China Sea, Philippine Sea, Sea of Japan, East China Sea, Bering Sea, Coral Sea, Tasman Sea. Atlantic basin: Mediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Baltic Sea, and the Black Sea via the Mediterranean. Indian basin: Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Red Sea, Persian Gulf. Southern Ocean: Weddell, Ross and Scotia seas. Arctic Ocean: Barents, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi, Beaufort and Greenland seas. The catalog has no separate area for those seas, so they cannot be placed as their own circles without inventing numbers.
